Are you interested in dropshipping watches? Do you want to start one of these fancy watch stores online?

Well, this article is going to be something different than most of my articles. In most of my articles, I try to help you to do something, but now I'm going to try to convince you not to do something (dropshipping watches)!

Watches are a popular niche because of the profit margins that you can reach with selling a watch, but keep in mind that dropshipping watches aren't the same thing. For example, if you purchase a $2 watch, then don't expect to sell it for $100 and make your customers happy... They will probably be disappointed in your store!

Why Do People Want to Dropship Watches?

Dropshipping Watches: Why do people want to dropship watches?

I personally think that people want to start dropshipping watches because they see all these high-profit margins, and want some of these profits as well.

They find out that you can find a watch for a few dollars, and then later sell it for a normal watch price. For example, here are the prices of Movement Watches:

They think that they can sell their cheap (AliExpress) watch for that amount as well...

If you don't believe me that this is really happening, then I got an example for you below. Take a look at this dropshipping store called The Wood Watch:

When I do a reverse image search on Google, then I find this AliExpress seller on the top:

Yes, I know, not the best AliExpress seller example, but I just wanted to show you that most of these watch dropshipping stores are all using the same images.

I do have a better example. I sorted 'Men watch' on AliExpress by most orders, and found this watch:

Now let's do a reverse image search for one of the images that this AliExpress seller provides, and look what I found:

And there were more of these stores selling the same watch with the same exact product images.

So yes, the number one reason I think that people start dropshipping watches is the profit margins. Buying a cheap quality watch for a few dollars and selling it for more than $30. Who doesn't want that...?

Anyway, below you find my reasons on why I think you shouldn't dropship watches. Let's see if you think the same about this or not.

4 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Dropship Watches

Now you know why people want to dropship watches or at least want to sell watches, but why would I say don't dropship it?

Well, let's find out!

But don't forget to give me your own opinion as well about dropshipping watches by commenting below or contacting me here.

I suggest you start by watching this amazing video below:

The Biggest Wristwatch Scam You've NEVER Heard Of (& How To Avoid It!)

1. Overdone with Free Plus Shipping

Dropshipping Watches: Over done with Free Plus Shipping

Let's start with my first reason why you shouldn't dropship watches; it's overdone with the free plus shipping method!

It’s no secret that watches are definitely the most picked product for free plus shipping offers. Or at least they were when I wrote that article; I hope by now people realize a bit more that they shouldn't pick watches!

free plus shipping watches example

That also means that a lot of people saw these kinds of free watches, and chances are a lot of them bought them as well, thinking they got some crazy good deal.

Only to later find out that it was some cheap quality watch.

You can also see it if you google for something like free watches or free plus shipping watches:

If you only want to read one article about it, then I suggest reading this one:

There’s No Such Thing as a Free Watch

As you can see, watches are not great for free plus shipping, but you might be thinking now:

Alright, that's free plus shipping, but I'm going to create a super special watch dropshipping store without free offers!

Well...

I personally don't think so, but I'll give you more reasons below:

2. It's so obvious that you dropship with these standard product images from watches...

Alright, the next one will flow in nicely with the first one. It's about people that are opening a watch store, but then they decide not to put any effort into their product images, and so on.

Quick note:
Unfortunately, it's not only watch dropshipping store owners that are not putting any effort into the creation of their store.

A lot of dropshippers don't spend any time on it, because they expect to be rich the very next week! You can click here if you do want to spend time creating an amazing store, and you want to learn how!

Let's start by taking a look at this amazing video that will make my point even clearer on why it's so obvious that you're dropshipping watches:

This Watch Brand Has Duped 4,000 People – Are You Next?

I mean, come on... If you want to dropship these watches, then at least spend some time on creating something unique like amazing product images.

Why does everyone want to look like every other dropshipping store out there?

Same theme, same product images, same product descriptions, and so on...

But I can go on, and on about that, haha! If you're interested in learning more, then you can click here.

3. Low-quality watches

Once again, this one flows in well with the previous one. I can keep this one short, but I will go a bit more in-depth below:

If your watch is $2 (on, for example, AliExpress), then don't expect it to be good quality. Don't expect people to think: "Wow, this watch feels nice, good quality; I love it!"

Dropshipping Watches: Low quality watches
Remember the AliExpress watch from the beginning? It fits right in here!

Or do you really think something that cheap will be made of good products? I personally think you will be sorry that you dropshipped such low-quality to your customers.

But if you're not sure, maybe your watch is five whole dollars instead of two, then you can always order the watch yourself. Go look at the quality of the watch, and please tell me if you think the quality is good enough for people to love it...

If the quality of the watch is crap, then don't see it as wasted money, but try to look at what would have happened if you did decide to dropship them.

How would your customer service look like? Or your product reviews?

4. Zach Inman

I think you already know him, but if not, I mention him a lot in this blog already. I personally believe he is one of "the good guys", for example:

Ex-Dropshipping Guru Reveals What's Wrong With the Industry (+ My Story)

He made a video about a few niches that he doesn't recommend you start dropshipping, and what a coincidence, the first niche he talks about; watches!

Yes, the video is from 2018, but the information is still true on why you shouldn't start a watch dropshipping store:

I just want to say one thing; my blog doesn’t endorse any paid dropshipping courses. (I hate them, they are the reason I created this blog)

If you’re interested in learning why I think paid dropshipping courses are a waste of money, then you can click here.

Below you will find the articles that I suggest you read next:

And also, if you didn’t create a Shopify account yet (to get your dropshipping store online), then you can click here to get a free 3-day trial + 1 month for $1!

Conclusion

That was all! My 4 reasons why I think you shouldn't start dropshipping watches in 2024. Or why you should stop dropshipping watches if you're currently doing that!

Please keep in mind that this is my opinion; if you do like watches a lot and it's all you can think about it, or you still want to try it, then go ahead!

Just please put some effort into your dropshipping store (like the product images), so your store won't look like all the other stores out there...

And do some research to find the best suppliers. Don't pick a dropshipping supplier with the cheapest price; pick the supplier with the best quality!

  1. Real good information. I found you by searching for a POD for watches. You see I am always looking to improve my product line. I already have a few suppliers who I consider goo. In Addition if one wants to star a watch store they should start with their own designs. This is possible with the very few POD sites now available.
I know something about watches and can honestly say that mine are unique and have decent enough quality for those who want something functional and different. .
